.About Jennifer L. Smith

Jennifer’s practice focuses on assisting clients with legal and public strategies counsel on a broad range of water-related and environmental issues, as well as employment law issues. She assists numerous water supply districts, groundwater conservation districts, cities, water utilities, private and public companies, and landowners in all phases of environmental regulation and in employment law matters.
 
Jennifer previously practiced as an attorney for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), representing the agency’s Executive Director in contested cases on water and landfill permits, petroleum storage tank regulation, and a variety of enforcement matters. Jennifer worked extensively at the agency on water quality issues, reviewed agency contracts, and responded to requests pursuant to the Public Information Act. She subsequently practiced employment law at the TCEQ, advising agency staff on critical personnel issues, including implementation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
 
Jennifer also served for 13 years as the Communications Director for a large non-profit organization in Austin. In that capacity, Jennifer was responsible for the organization’s strategic communication planning and content, as well as providing communications leadership for citywide campaigns. Jennifer also served as Media Representative and spokesperson for the organization.
 
Jennifer attended Baylor University, where she graduated magna cum laude in American Studies, and received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Baylor Law School.
 
A native of Fort Worth, Jennifer currently lives in Austin, where she devotes her time and energy to her two children.
